8 of Pentacles tarot card — Amy Johnsen, Opensassamy
8 of Pentacles

Amy Johnsen, Opensassamy

Open Sassamy found dance on her middle school team and never let it go. Six years of pole followed — enough to instruct, and enough to take gold at Northwest Pole Art. And with them came the strength, the storytelling, and the signature splits that are unmistakably hers the moment she takes the air. By day she is a science teacher, and she carries that into every performance: proof for the young women watching that the arts and STEM are not a fork in the road but a single path, that creativity and rigor were always meant to be practiced by the same hands. Only a year into silks, she brings the discipline of someone who has already mastered one art to the joy of beginning another — the earth-suit truth made flesh, that everything worth building is built one patient, devoted year at a time.

The Empress tarot card — Ashley
The Empress

Ashley

Ashley casts her magic through a 3-D printing machine.

Her booth at haunted markets was full of small witchy things — trinkets, charms, objects with a little menace in them — every one printed by her, layer on layer. A spell is a set of instructions carried out precisely, in order, until something exists that didn’t before. And so is a print file.

She comes by the conviction honestly. Tarot taught her that meaning can be laid out in an order and read. Disney taught her that wonder is something a person can manufacture on purpose, and that the manufacturing doesn’t make it less real.

She takes the work to markets, parades, and conventions across the Pacific Northwest, and she is fierce about protecting children — a fitting instinct in someone who conjures enchantment. Call her an empress and she won’t correct you.

10 of Pentacles

Bear Bear

Best friend and dog-son of Micah and Sara Burleson. He became their adopted companion after being found roughing it in the streets of Las Vegas. Upon being rescued, he told them stories of his fast-paced lavish life as a Bouncer of sorts for the ladies of the night. Now that he’s ‘retired’, he lives a plush and relaxing life existing as a snuggle loaf, walking pal, and emotional support pooch.

Now blending scholarship with sorcery, Ducky teaches and performs fabric and flow arts with reverence and grit. After overcoming a shoulder injury, she returned to aerial silks in 2023—winning her division at Aerialympics that same year. Ace of Torches tarot card — Ian
Ace of Torches

Ian

Ian’s interest in fire and aerial arts was born from a love of rave and festival culture. For much of his life he was afraid of performing — of making mistakes, of being seen in any sort of spotlight. It was always easier to say “I could never do that,” or to stay in the background. His first staff was meant to be nothing more than a fidget toy, something to occupy his hands while he wandered the crowds. Out of that came the confidence to be perceived, to make something through expression, and to be okay with being seen.

Over the past year, with the loving support of his partner, he has found the courage to try things that would have been foreign to him a year earlier. Everything is still new. But he has found a place he belongs, where his creativity can flow without fear.

The Fool tarot card — Jakob
The Fool

Jakob

Jakob has spent eleven years learning to connect his instrument to his breath. Woodwinds since grade school, jazz almost as long, now gigging across the Pacific Northwest.Fire asks for the same discipline. He eats it. Cauldrons and live eats are his favorites, and he is entirely upfront about why: he relishes in holding a flame in his mouth long enough for the room to start worrying. Eleven years of learning to control his breath, spent on making an audience hold theirs.

Temperance tarot card — Jealousy
Temperance

Jealousy

Jealousy has been in the air just over four years, though she moves as if guided by a wisdom far older. Each sequence arrives like a whisper from lifetimes past; each shape is held with a spellbound precision that seems to predate the practice itself.

She appears in this deck five times, across two shoots twenty-two weeks apart, and both times she was carrying a child. At sixteen weeks she modeled Temperance, the Six of Cups, and the Ten of Torches: two things patiently becoming one, and childhood itself. At thirty-eight weeks, a fortnight from delivery, she modeled the Star and the Ten of Cups; hope, and a family made whole. She has since brought a healthy baby girl into the world. The promise carried on starlight has been kept. The sling is her chosen companion, where she weaves stories in suspended spirals, with lyra and mini lyra alongside. She shimmers like moonlight upon silk, and she is back teaching: @yojellybelly on IG.

Justice tarot card — Jenny
Justice

Jenny

Diamond Haze’s journey is guided by movement and devotion to the art of the body. Rooted in her passion for fitness—Zumba, weightlifting, and calisthenics—she discovered a deeper calling in 2022 when she stepped into her first pole and low-flow dance class. From that moment, the air itself became her stage. Now, she boldly transforms fear into flight, rising beyond her once-held limits through dance trapeze, aerial silks, and hammock. Each ascent is an act of courage, each spin a reclamation of grace. Her energy is radiant, her presence captivating—we are endlessly inspired by the magic she brings into motion.

The Tower tarot card — Kirsten
The Tower

Kirsten

At nineteen, standing at the threshold of becoming, Kirsten recalled a passing tale her cousin once told; a story of spinning steel and boundless joy. Curiosity carried her into the world of pole, and what she found there was a calling. In its flowing movements she found liberation, a way to reclaim herself through her darkest seasons. What began as a whisper of wonder grew into a guiding flame, and it has carried her for more than a decade since.

She also holds a master’s degree in biology. She can tell you precisely what a body is made of — cell, fiber, and bone, the whole machinery of it — and she will still call what happens in the air magic. Now her movement weaves across the stages of the Pacific Northwest. Between performances she becomes a guide, sharing acro and aerial hammock with adults and children alike, inviting them to find their own magic overhead.

The Chariot tarot card — Lady Stoneheart
The Chariot

Lady Stoneheart

She is a mother, a teacher, and a lover of books. They called her Lady Stoneheart, though what shaped her heart was devotion. For ten years she spoke the quiet language of ballet, learning how discipline blooms into grace, how stillness carries power. When the mirrors faded, the sky answered.

In 2021 the silks unfurled above her and she climbed, suspended between breath and gravity. What ballet rooted in the earth, the air taught to fly. She moves like a living spell; every climb and every fall echoes the girl she was and the woman she chose to become.

Lady Stoneheart is still dancing. The floor gave her discipline; the sky gave her somewhere to spend it.

The Sun tarot card — Micah
The Sun

Micah

Born beneath the vast desert skies of Las Cruces, New Mexico, he came of age where sun and sand seemed to whisper stories of endurance and possibility. It was there, amid the quiet resilience of the land, that he pursued his studies before answering a greater call beyond the horizon. He joined the Air Force and became a traveler of worlds, crossing oceans and continents, gathering moments and memories from every corner of the globe.

Throughout every chapter, movement and strength remained his constant companions. What began as long, solitary miles of marathon running slowly transformed into the disciplined artistry of bodybuilding; a devotion to sculpting both body and will.

In the gentler hours of life now, he delights in unraveling mysteries within escape rooms alongside his wife, Sara, and in peaceful walks shared with their loyal dog, Bear Bear, where each step feels like a quiet spell woven into the day.

9 of Torches tarot card — Robin
9 of Torches

Robin

Robin Wolff keeps a garden, a flock, and a herd, and raises three children at home. She has spent years learning what soil, chickens, ducks, and goats ask of a body, and what a body can be trained to achieve; before the animals there were barbells, and a physique built one deliberate rep at a time.

Growing up in Vegas, she was raised on Cirque du Soleil; the spectacle lodged early and never left. Last September she walked into her first lyra class, and something answered. She competed in VivaFest just six months into her aerial journey. The ring stayed — a steel circle she has learned to live inside. Then the flame: poi turning in both hands and taken to her mouth. Silks and rope followed, because one apparatus was never going to hold her. You can expect to see across stages all over the PNW. Find her performer page on IG @robin.en.cirque

The Emperor tarot card — Rich
The Emperor

Rich

Forged in the halls of the University of Tennessee College of Law, Rich’s path first led him into service as an Army Captain, where he carried his oath across distant sands during a deployment to Afghanistan.

From there, he ventured into the bustling realm of commerce as an account executive, navigating boardrooms and balance sheets with equal resolve. After a cherished chapter devoted to the sacred work of fatherhood at home, a quieter calling revealed itself—one rooted in wonder, wisdom, and the shaping of young minds.

Today, Rich answers that call as an elementary school teacher, where he teaches alongside Lady Stoneheart, weaving knowledge, curiosity, and heart into the everyday magic of the classroom.

Sara

Sara Burleson is a lifelong dancer who found her wings beneath the neon glow of Las Vegas. Drawn skyward by curiosity and courage, she weaves strength and grace into suspended stories where the body listens and the air responds.

Grounded by fifteen years of movement study as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and POP Pilates Presenter, Sara’s artistry blooms most vividly on lyra and mini lyra, while her practice drifts through rope, straps, silks, Spanish web, and sling. From circus tents to city lights—including the Hadi Shrine Circus, the NFL Draft, and Seattle’s Bumbershoot—she invites audiences into a fleeting dream where gravity loosens its hold.

Sam on a Stick

Sam spent a childhood in ballet and a high school career on the dance team, then put dance down for years, the way adults do. Three years ago came a single pole class. The connection was instant, and unchanged from what it had been at nine.

Pole opened everything after it: rope, trapeze, flying pole, a fire hoop spun in the dark. Circus gave her the nerve to aim high and expect to arrive. She manages commercial high-rises by day and climbs by night. Both go up; she sets neither down.

Todd Rogers is NASM certified in personal training and nutrition, is collecting further certifications, and has lately been learning straps himself. Ask him anything about aerial, pole, or fitness; he answers completely and without ceremony, which is rarer than it should be.

Virgil Dentata

Virgil Dentata has spent more than a decade on silks. Long enough for the fabric to stop being an obstacle and start being a language. What holds him there is the freedom he feels while dancing in the air. The silks demand two things at once. Strength enough to hold a shape the floor is trying to take back, and grace enough to make the holding look like a choice. Virgil works the seam between them.Ten years in, still climbing.

Queen of Pentacles tarot card — Zelda
Queen of Pentacles

Zelda

Zelda, a lionhead-lop mix who turns five in August 2026, is the small warm heart at the center of the Queen of Pentacles — the soft, precious life that all that abundance exists to shelter. She loves her people with an openness most creatures never risk: leaning into a hand, nudging it back when the petting stops too soon, curious about absolutely everything that crosses her path. She keeps her own hours, famous for midnight zoomies, and her tastes are simple and impeccable — fresh greens, good company, and the attention of anyone willing to give it. She has taken her curiosity on the road, too, exploring Pike Place Market and Washington’s parks with the fearless delight of a soul who has decided the whole world is worth investigating. Held against Sassy Ma’s heart, she is the Queen’s deepest truth made small and living: that the truest wealth is the tender thing you choose to keep warm.

Beyond the Frame

Collaborating Artists

Costume, object, and photographic artists shaped the visual world surrounding every performance.

Alison Jean Costumes

Alison Jean has been designing and constructing costumes for nearly 20 years. With degrees in both Fashion Design and Theatrical Costume Design, alongside years of cosplay creations, she brings a wealth of skills, knowledge, and a variety of experiences to draw from. She opened her studio for costume commissions in 2023, bringing all her experience to custom creations. She especially loves costume crafts, experimenting with new materials, and learning new techniques whenever possible.

Coil.and.Thread

Coil.and.Thread is the work of Evie — artist, collector of oddities, and keeper of what the world tends to discard. She makes handcrafted art and decor from cruelty-free and often found materials: bones, beetles, butterfly wings, coffin nails, and gemstones. Each is chosen and set with intention — nothing arbitrary, nothing wasted.

Art has been part of her for as long as she can remember, one of the ways she stays tethered to the natural world. For the better part of twelve years she has made jewelry and immortalized the dead, giving lasting form to what would otherwise slip away. That is the heart of coil.and.thread: honoring what has been lost, forgotten, or hidden, and carrying it into something that can be remembered and cherished. Evie holds a degree in Museum Studies with a focus on Conservation — a discipline built, like her work, on preserving what matters. She is also a mother, a homeschooler, a ‘retired’ birth worker, and the tender of a tiny gothic farm.

David “Vitz” Horvitz

Vitz is a Seattle-based photographer who chases the strange and luminous: Flow Arts, Ringside, Performance, Fashion/Cosplay, Promotional/Portraiture, Shibari/Kink. He hunts for the spark in people: the moment someone becomes fully, fantastically themselves.

He discovered his obsession as a child on his mom’s film sets, where he picked up any camera within reach and never really put it down. Twenty years of practice, five of them professional, have sharpened a perspective that’s a little off-axis. He sees the magic hiding in plain sight and builds a frame around it.

His subjects live at the edges: punks, fire-spinners, witches, kink performers, cosplayers. His favorite alchemy is drawing out the hidden self; the punk-rock heart under polished editorial gloss, the soft mischief behind a wrestler’s stone-faced persona, the grace coiled inside BDSM’s ropes and shadow. People this vivid, strange, brilliant, beautiful inside and out, they keep teaching him new ways to see and we love what he has done for this deck.
